Quality Control and Quality Management are both required under the MOT regulations, and we can help you develop Comprehensive Plans to suit your business.
Quality Control
Whether you are a sole trader with only one tester or a large dealership with many, you have to show that you carry out “adequate” quality control.
“Adequate” is a difficult concept to be specific about, however DVSA state that you should carry out at least one Quality Check on each tester once every two months if the tester is experienced and does an average number of tests, e.g., 2 to 3 tests per day.
If the tester is inexperienced or does a higher volume of tests then the requirement for QC goes up, e.g. 4-6 tests per day would be monthly, more often than that for very high volume testers.
QC has to cover all aspects of the test, plus a review of performance.
This can be awkward for small test stations with one tester, under these circumstances DVSA recommend a reciprocal arrangement with another local garage or the use of a third party.
We can help you to develop your processes, monitor your performance carry out routine Quality Management checks.
Quality Management
The requirements for Quality Management can be found in Section B.6 of The MOT Testing Guide MOT testing guide for test stations – B. Authorised examiners – Guidance – GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)
Our Quality Management checks on your VTS covers all of your systems, paperwork, record keeping, equipment and premises. We would also carry out a physical QC check on one of your testers as part of the process.
You get an in depth analysis of the VTS performance, plus a report on the VTS and your testers.
This is by far the best way to ensure that your Risk Score (RAG Rating) remains as low as possible, it is designed to keep Green VTS’s Green and to Improve those rated Amber or Red.
